Château de la Chèvre d'Or is the most romantic perch on the French Riviera: a Relais & Châteaux hotel spread through the stone houses of Èze, a medieval village clinging to a rock high above the Mediterranean between Nice and Monaco. Rooms and suites are scattered along lanes and terraces, so the hotel feels like part of the village rather than a building inside it.
The views are the reason to come. From the terraces you look straight down to the coast and out to sea, with Cap Ferrat to one side. The gastronomic restaurant holds two Michelin stars and since 2024 its kitchens have been led by Tom Meyer, a Meilleur Ouvrier de France. There are also a bistronomic restaurant, an open-air café and a bar on the ramparts.
It suits couples who want history, views and great food and who are happy to be up in a village rather than on a beach. Èze is busy with day-trippers by day, but in the evening it empties and turns very quiet. The hotel closes for part of the winter.

Why Couples Love the Chèvre d'Or
The setting is extraordinary. Èze sits about 400 meters above the sea and the hotel's terraces hang over the edge, so meals and drinks come with a view across the bay that few places on the coast can match.
The village adds atmosphere. Lanes are cobbled, car-free and lined with stone houses and galleries. After the day-trippers leave, you have them almost to yourselves. Staying overnight means you see Èze at its best: early morning and late evening, when the light is soft and the streets are quiet. Couples who love old places with character tend to fall for it.
Rooms and Suites to Book
Categories run from Tradition Rooms and Elegance and Deluxe Rooms to Junior, Executive, Prestige, Royal, Nietzsche and Panoramic Suites.
For a honeymoon, book a sea-view room at the very least. The views are the point and garden-view rooms miss them. If you can stretch the budget, the Nietzsche Suite and the Panoramic Suite each have a private pool and the Panoramic Suite adds a hot tub, which makes them two of the most romantic rooms on the Riviera. Executive Suites offer sea views and gardens at a lower price. Rooms are spread through the village, so ask about stairs if you have heavy luggage.
Food and Drink
La Chèvre d'Or, the gastronomic restaurant, holds two Michelin stars. Chef Tom Meyer, a Meilleur Ouvrier de France, took over the kitchens in 2024 and the menus focus on Mediterranean produce. Book it for your celebration dinner, ideally at a table by the window for sunset.
Les Remparts is the bistronomic alternative, with a terrace on the ramparts and Le Café du Jardin is the open-air spot for lunch. The bar is a good place for a sunset cocktail before dinner. The hotel also offers wellness services, including relaxation and fitness options, but it is not a large spa resort.
Why guests fall for it
Things to Do
Èze is a good base for the eastern Riviera.
- Visit the Jardin Exotique at the top of the village for a 360-degree view.
- Walk the Nietzsche Path down to Èze-sur-Mer and the beach, then take the bus or a taxi back up.
- Spend a day in Monaco, about 15 minutes away.
- Explore Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild on Cap Ferrat.
- Take the coastal train to Menton or Nice.
The Nietzsche Path is steep and rocky, so wear proper shoes and carry water and avoid it in midday summer heat.
Getting There
Nice Côte d'Azur Airport (NCE) is about 30 minutes by car and has summer nonstop flights from the US. The hotel can arrange a private transfer, which is the easiest way to reach Èze with luggage.
Cars cannot enter the village itself, so you park below and staff help with bags. Buses link Èze with Nice and Monaco and the coastal train stops at Èze-sur-Mer at the foot of the hill. A car is useful for exploring inland villages, but parking is limited, so taxis and trains work well for most day trips.
Is It Worth It?
For couples who want a romantic, historic retreat with outstanding views and food, yes. A sea-view room and a two-star dinner here make for one of the best evenings on the Riviera.
It is not a beach hotel and the village is crowded with visitors during the day. Couples who want to swim in the sea every morning should consider Hôtel Belles Rives in Juan-les-Pins or the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat. Those with mobility issues should note the stairs and slopes. But for a few nights of views, history and great dining, the Chèvre d'Or is hard to beat.

- Pay for a sea view; it is the reason to stay here.
- Explore the village early in the morning before day-trippers arrive.
- Book a window table at the gastronomic restaurant for sunset.
- Use taxis or the train for day trips rather than driving.
