Choosing where to go is the most exciting decision you'll make about your honeymoon. Often it's also the hardest. This page gathers every destination we cover, organized by region, so you can compare a Maldives atoll with a Caribbean island or a Lapland forest without opening twenty tabs.

Each destination guide explains why it works for couples, the best months to visit, how to get there from the US and which of our hand-picked retreats sit nearby. Start with a region that matches the experience you're after, then dig into the places that make you both lean toward the screen.

Indian Ocean

For many couples, this is the honeymoon. The Maldives scatter private-island resorts across coral atolls, each with its own personality. Baa Atoll is a UNESCO biosphere reserve known for its marine life, while North Malé Atoll and South Malé Atoll are reachable by speedboat. Ari Atoll and Noonu Atoll sit a scenic seaplane ride away. The driest, calmest months are typically December through April.

The Seychelles feel wilder, with granite boulders and jungle-covered peaks. Praslin & La Digue suit couples who like to explore by bike and ferry, while the Seychelles Private Islands offer near-total seclusion. Expect long flights from the US, usually with a connection in the Middle East.

South Pacific

Bora Bora is the image on a million mood boards. Nonstop flights from the West Coast to Tahiti make it more reachable than the Maldives for many Americans. Moorea adds hiking trails and emerald peaks just a short ferry from Papeete, while Tetiaroa offers a private-atoll escape. In Fiji, the Mamanuca Islands are quick to reach from Nadi and the Yasawa Islands feel more remote. Northern Fiji is home to some of the most exclusive private islands in the Pacific. Across the region, roughly May to October is the drier season.

Caribbean

Short flights, easy logistics and a deep bench of couples-only resorts make the Caribbean a natural fit for honeymooners. Jamaica offers three distinct moods: sunset-focused Negril, polished Montego Bay and waterfall-rich Ocho Rios. In Saint Lucia, Soufrière sits beneath the Pitons, while Gros Islet & Rodney Bay is livelier and close to the north-end airport. Antigua's Southwest Coast is all sheltered coves and sailing. Turks & Caicos brings the dazzling water of Grace Bay and the private-island calm of Parrot Cay. Winter and spring are typically the sweet spot; hurricane season runs June through November.

Mexico & Central America

Mexico may be the easiest dream honeymoon for Americans. The Riviera Maya and Tulum combine Caribbean beaches with cenotes and Maya ruins. Los Cabos pairs desert drama with Pacific surf, while Punta Mita offers whale season and long lunches on the sand. Further south, Costa Rica's Arenal is all volcano views and hot springs, while Guanacaste is its sunny beach coast. In Belize, Ambergris Caye puts the barrier reef at your doorstep. The Cayo District adds jungle lodges and ancient temples. December through April is typically the driest window across most of the region.

USA & Canada

US citizens need no passport for any of our US destinations. In Hawaii, choose between Maui's beaches and Haleakalā sunrises, Lānaʻi's quiet luxury and Kauaʻi's dramatic cliffs. On the mainland, Big Sur, Napa Valley, Sedona and Southern Utah offer road-trip romance, while the Great Smoky Mountains and Poconos deliver cozy cabins. Fairbanks brings the aurora and the Pacific Northwest offers treehouse nights. Just across the border (passport required), Banff & Lake Louise, Vancouver Island and Newfoundland trade beaches for big-nature romance.

Arctic & Nordics

Finnish Lapland and Swedish Lapland are home to glass igloos, treehouse hotels and the famous Icehotel, with aurora season running roughly from late August to early April. Iceland is closer, often around five to six hours from the East Coast: the Reykjanes Peninsula is home to geothermal lagoon spa retreats near the airport, while the Golden Circle & South Coast deliver waterfalls, geysers and black-sand beaches. Summer here means long days and, in the far north, the midnight sun.

Mediterranean

Santorini and Mykonos are the Greek island icons, with whitewashed cliffside suites and caldera or Aegean sunsets. Italy's honeymoon classics each tell a different story: the Amalfi Coast for lemon groves and vertiginous views; Lake Como for grand villas and boat rides; Tuscany for vineyards and countryside estates; Venice for canal-side romance. Late spring and early fall usually bring the best balance of weather and crowds. Many coastal hotels close for winter.

Asia

In Bali, Ubud offers jungle pool villas and rice-terrace views while Uluwatu has clifftop sunsets. Nearby Sumba feels wonderfully remote. Thailand covers every mood: Phuket and Krabi & Railay for Andaman Sea beaches and limestone cliffs; Koh Samui on the Gulf for a different weather pattern; Chiang Rai & the Golden Triangle for jungle tented camps. Japan's Kyoto and Hakone are the places for ryokans, temples and private hot-spring baths.

Africa

Safari honeymoons are hard to top. Many couples pair the bush with a beach. In Tanzania, the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater offer world-famous wildlife viewing. Zanzibar adds Indian Ocean beaches and Stone Town's spice-scented lanes. In South Africa, Sabi Sand is renowned for leopard sightings and plush private lodges, while the Cape Winelands make a gorgeous, food-and-wine-focused finale.

FAQ

What's the best honeymoon destination for a first international trip?

Mexico and the Caribbean are easy wins: short nonstop flights, English widely spoken in resort areas and plenty of couples-focused resorts. Destinations such as the Riviera Maya, Los Cabos, Turks & Caicos and Jamaica let you feel far away without a punishing journey. You'll need passports. Entry and visa rules depend on your citizenship and can change at short notice, so check the official government website before you book.

Can we combine two destinations on one honeymoon?

Absolutely. It's often the best way to add variety. Classic pairings include the Serengeti with Zanzibar, Bora Bora with Moorea, Arenal with Guanacaste, or the Amalfi Coast with Lake Como. Keep transfers reasonable and allow at least three or four nights in each place so you're not living out of a suitcase.

Which destinations are best for a short honeymoon?

With a week or less, stay closer to home. Hawaii, Mexico, the Caribbean, Napa Valley, Sedona or the Great Smoky Mountains keep travel time low. Long-haul destinations like the Maldives, Bali or an African safari usually reward ten days or more, because the journey itself can take a full day each way.

How do you decide which destinations to cover?

We focus on places with genuinely romantic stays, a strong sense of setting and enough to do as a couple. We include destinations at different distances and budgets. We expand the list over time as we research new retreats.
