Time + Tide Chinzombo is the most stylish honeymoon camp in South Luangwa. It has just six tents on a bend in the Luangwa River, each with a private pool, a soaking tub with a river view and a large shaded veranda. Across the water lies one of the most game-rich parts of South Luangwa National Park, reached by a short boat crossing at the start of each drive or walk.
The design uses canvas, timber, reed, leather and raw linen, with vintage touches that make it feel warm rather than showy. It has won awards for its design. The camp is open all year, which is rare in the valley, so you can come in the green season when the landscape is lush, the birds are spectacular and rates are lower.
It suits couples who want luxury, privacy and strong guiding in one place. Activities include game drives, walking safaris, sleepouts and seasonal boat safaris, with two included each day. It is expensive. There are cheaper ways to see South Luangwa. For a honeymoon splurge, though, few camps in Zambia match the combination of private pools, river views and excellent wildlife.
Highlights at a glance

- Award-winning design in natural materials
Why Couples Love Chinzombo
Privacy is built in. With only six tents spread along the river, you rarely see other guests except at meals. Your private pool and veranda give you a place to spend the hot middle of the day without leaving your tent. Elephants, hippos and crocodiles are regular sights from the deck.
The guiding matters just as much. South Luangwa is famous for walking safaris and leopards. Chinzombo's guides make the most of both. Mornings start with a boat crossing into the park, then a drive or a walk with an armed scout. Afternoons end with sundowners and a night drive back, spotlighting for leopards. Staff are attentive without being intrusive. Honeymooners often mention the small touches, from a private dinner on the deck to a sleepout under the stars.
Tents to Book
There are six tents in total.
- Five one-bedroom tents, each with one bathroom, a private pool, a soaking tub with a river view and a large shaded veranda. These are the honeymoon tents.
- One two-bedroom family tent with two bathrooms, suited to families or friends traveling together.
All the one-bedroom tents share the same standard, so ask for the one with the best view or the most privacy when you book. The design mixes canvas and timber with reed screens and linen, keeping the rooms cool and open to the river. A 20-minute welcome massage is included. In-room spa treatments can be arranged at extra cost. Mention your honeymoon when you book so the camp can plan a special dinner or a sleepout.
Food, Drink and the Spa
The rate includes all meals and standard drinks: soft drinks, house wine, beer and spirits. Reserve spirits, premium wines and champagne cost extra. Meals are served in the main area, on your deck or out in the bush, with menus that change with the season.
There is no full spa building, but in-room treatments are available, so you can book a couples massage on your veranda after a morning walk. The welcome massage on arrival is a good way to shake off the journey. Laundry is included. Days settle into a rhythm: early wake-up, a game activity, brunch, a swim and nap in the heat, tea, an afternoon drive and dinner. It is relaxing and full at once.
Why guests fall for it
Things to Do
Two activities a day are included. Choose from morning and afternoon game drives, walking safaris, cultural visits and sundowners. Night drives are a highlight of Zambia, since they are permitted here. South Luangwa is one of the best places in Africa to see leopards after dark.
Walking safaris are the classic Luangwa experience. With a guide and an armed scout, you learn to read tracks and spot small things you would miss from a vehicle. Sleepouts under the stars can be arranged for a night you will talk about for years. In the green season, from roughly December to April, boat safaris on the swollen river replace some drives. Couples with different energy levels can mix walks and drives across the stay.
Getting There
Fly into Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN) in Lusaka, then take a domestic flight of about an hour to Mfuwe Airport (MFU). From Mfuwe, the transfer to camp takes about an hour by game-drive vehicle and is included in the rate. Transfers between Time + Tide camps by road are also included.
The camp is open all year. July to October is the dry season, with the best game viewing and the highest rates. The green season, roughly November to June, is lush and cheaper, with dramatic storms and excellent birding. This is a malaria area, so talk to a travel doctor about prevention. If you're pregnant or hoping to be soon, check CDC travel health notices for Zambia before you go.
Is It Worth It?
For a honeymoon splurge, yes. Rates are about $1,330 per person per night in the green season and $1,840 in high season, so roughly $2,660 to $3,680 for two, plus park fees and conservation levies of around $100 per person per night. Treat those as approximate. What you get is a private pool, excellent guiding, all meals and drinks and two activities a day.
The main reason to look elsewhere is budget. Mfuwe Lodge or the smaller seasonal camps are cheaper ways to see the same wildlife. If you want a more rustic bush experience, Tena Tena in the Nsefu sector is more remote. But for couples who want luxury, privacy and leopards in one place, Chinzombo is one of the best camps in Zambia.
