Melian Boutique Hotel & Spa is a small, sea-facing hotel in Pollonia, the fishing village on the northeast tip of Milos. It has just 15 rooms and suites, all with sea and sunset views, a spa and its own restaurant, Mama Melian. For couples, the best reason to book is the location: you are on the waterfront next to the beach, with Pollonia's tavernas a short stroll away.
This is the choice for a honeymoon that values walkability and character over resort facilities. You can swim in the bay in the morning, walk to the harbor for lunch and come back to your terrace for sunset. A handful of rooms add a private outdoor hot tub, including two honeymoon categories and a penthouse with a large veranda.
Rooms are not large and there is no private beach or big pool complex. In exchange you get a personal welcome, a calm village setting and prices that are usually well below the island's luxury resorts. It pairs well with a couple of days of boat trips to Kleftiko and drives to Sarakiniko and Plaka, all reachable in under half an hour.
Highlights at a glance
- Only 15 rooms, all facing the sea and sunset
- On the Pollonia waterfront beside the beach
- Private hot tubs in five categories
- Mama Melian restaurant
- Small spa for couples treatments
Why Couples Love the Melian
Pollonia is arguably the most romantic village on Milos to stay in. It has a small curve of sand, fishing boats in the harbor and a row of restaurants on the water, yet it stays quiet after dinner. The Melian sits right on that waterfront, so the village is your living room.
Because the hotel is so small, staff get to know guests quickly. Breakfast is unhurried and the cocktail lounge over the sea is a natural place to end the day.
The sunset views are a real plus. Pollonia faces west across its bay, so evenings from a terrace or hot tub here are memorable without driving up to Plaka. Couples who want a slow, simple honeymoon with good food and swimming often find it fits better than a large resort.
Rooms and Suites to Book
All 15 units face the sea and the sunset, but sizes vary, so choose carefully.
- Superior Sea and Sunset View: about 20 to 26 square meters, comfortable for two if you will be out a lot.
- Premium Superior: a little larger, up to about 30 square meters.
- Honeymoon Sea and Sunset View with Hot Tub: designed for couples, with a private outdoor hot tub.
- Honeymoon Penthouse with Hot Tub: a modest room with a big veranda of about 46 square meters, the standout for a honeymoon.
- Grand Suite with Hot Tub: the largest, with a 50-square-meter veranda.
The hot tub rooms are few, so book them early. If they are taken, a Premium Superior is a solid second choice.
Food, Drink and the Spa
Mama Melian, the hotel's restaurant, serves Mediterranean cooking with a focus on Greek ingredients and fish. Dinner can be booked online and a table near the water at sunset is worth reserving in advance. The cocktail lounge over the sea is good for a drink before heading out.
The spa is small but useful on a windy day. It offers massages and other therapies and a couples treatment after a boat trip is a good way to recover from sun and salt.
Pollonia's restaurants are a big part of the appeal. You can walk to seafood tavernas, a few cafés and a bakery. For a change of scene, drive up to Plaka for sunset dinner or down to Klima for lunch beside the painted boathouses.
Why guests fall for it
Things to Do
From Pollonia, small boats and the regular ferry cross to Kimolos in a few minutes. It is an easy half day: wander the hilltop village of Chorio, swim at a quiet beach and eat lunch by the water.
Sarakiniko, the moonlike white rock bay, is about 10 to 15 minutes by car. Go early in the morning before the crowds and the midday glare.
The classic boat day to Kleftiko's sea arches and caves on the southwest coast is worth booking once. Some boats leave from Pollonia, others from Adamas. On the drive back, stop at Plaka for sunset at Panagia Thalassitra and a walk through the lanes. Firiplaka and Tsigrado, on the south coast, are the beaches to try when the north wind is blowing.
Getting There
Milos Airport (MLO), with short flights from Athens, is about 15 to 20 minutes from Pollonia. Ferries from Piraeus take between three and seven hours depending on the boat and dock at Adamas, roughly 15 minutes away.
A rental car or ATV makes life much easier on Milos. Many beaches are reached by dirt roads and taxis are scarce in summer. Parking in Pollonia can be tight in August, so ask the hotel where to leave the car.
The hotel is seasonal, generally open from spring into autumn. June and September are the best months for a honeymoon, when the sea is warm and the island is calmer. The meltemi wind can be strong in July and August, which sometimes affects boats from the north coast.
Is It Worth It?
For couples who want village life, sea views and a hot tub on the terrace without luxury resort prices, the Melian is very good value on Milos. Entry rooms often start in the low to mid-hundreds of dollars a night in the shoulder season, with hot tub suites costing more. These figures are approximate and rise in August.
It is not the right pick if you want a large private pool, a private beach or extensive facilities. For that, look at Milos Cove nearby. Light sleepers should know that a waterfront village can be lively in peak weeks.
Book the Melian if your idea of a honeymoon is walking to dinner, swimming off the beach in front of the hotel and watching the sun set from your own terrace.
