Green Coast Hotel MGallery Collection is the most polished place to stay on the Albanian Riviera and the easiest recommendation for couples who want resort comforts on a coast still better known for guesthouses. It sits in Palasë, at the bottom of the Llogara Pass switchbacks, with 131 rooms and suites that all face the Ionian Sea. Below is a private Blue Flag beach. Behind is the mountain wall of Llogara National Park.

This is a new build inside the larger Green Coast development, so expect fresh, design-led rooms rather than old-world charm. The draw for honeymooners is the combination: an infinity pool over very clear water, a spa spread across five levels and four places to eat and drink without getting back in the car. The project won Architectural Highlight of the Year at the GRI Awards Europe, the first Albanian project to do so.

It suits couples who want a comfortable base for a week of coves, boat trips and long lunches in Himarë or Dhërmi. Couples hunting for stone-village character should look at a guesthouse in upper Dhërmi instead.

Highlights at a glance

  • 131 rooms and suites, all facing the Ionian Sea
  • Infinity pool above a private Blue Flag beach
  • Five-level spa with a hammam and olive oil treatments
  • Four restaurants and bars, including a beach bar with live music
  • Minutes from Dhërmi and the foot of the Llogara Pass

Why Couples Choose Green Coast

Most of the Albanian Riviera grew up quickly and a little haphazardly. Green Coast is the opposite: a planned resort with landscaping, a beachfront promenade and parking that actually works. For a honeymoon that matters, because it removes the small frictions that can wear on a road trip along this coast.

The setting does the rest. Palasë faces west, so sunset lands straight over the sea in front of the pool. The water here is the same pale, glassy blue that made the Riviera famous and the beach is wide enough that it rarely feels crowded outside August. Dhërmi's beach clubs are a few minutes south when you want a livelier evening. The local story is that Julius Caesar landed his army on this beach in 48 BC, which explains the name of the top suite.

Rooms and Suites to Book

Every room has a sea view, so the decision comes down to space and how much time you plan to spend inside.

  • Classic and Superior rooms are comfortable and well designed. A Superior with a king bed is the sensible pick for a short stay.
  • Junior Suites add a sitting area and more room to spread out, which helps on a week-long stay in July or August when the afternoon heat sends you indoors.
  • Suites give you a proper living space and the best balconies for a room-service breakfast.
  • The Caesar's Suite is the showpiece if you want to celebrate.

Ask for a higher floor when booking. The views widen as you go up and you hear less from the pool and beach bar.

Food, Drink and the Spa

The resort has four venues. MOSAïC is the main restaurant, with an open kitchen and flame-grilled dishes. BLISS is the poolside bar for sushi, wood-fired pizza and ice cream. VELA, on the beach, does cocktails and tapas with live music in the evenings. MENTE handles breakfast and lighter Mediterranean food and the breakfast spread includes Albanian byrek.

The spa is the standout. It runs over five levels with sea views and leans on local ingredients, with olive oil and herb treatments, a sauna and a hammam. There is also a gym, yoga and Pilates classes and sound-healing sessions on the beach at sunset. Book a couples treatment for a late afternoon, when the light on the water is at its best.

Why guests fall for it

Sea views from every room
The spa's local ingredients and sea-facing rooms
Sunset drinks at VELA on the sand
A calm, organized base on a busy coast
Easy access to boat trips and hidden coves

Things to Do

Use the hotel as a base and spend your days on the coast. Drive the Llogara Pass at sunset for the view down to the sea, then come back for dinner. Hike down the canyon to Gjipe beach, a cove with no road access that rewards the walk with clear water and limestone cliffs. Take a boat trip to the sea caves and coves south of Dhërmi, which you cannot reach any other way.

Farther south, Himarë has a seafront promenade and an old castle quarter for a long lunch and the fortress at Porto Palermo sits on its own small peninsula. Within the Green Coast development itself there are water sports, shops and restaurants along the promenade when you want a quiet day close to the room.

Getting There

Tirana International Airport (TIA) is the main gateway, with connections through major European hubs. The drive to Palasë takes a little over two hours on good roads, then climbs over the Llogara Pass, which is slow and full of hairpins. Hire a car if you plan to explore. A driver makes sense if neither of you enjoys mountain roads.

The alternative is Corfu (CFU) in Greece, then the ferry to Saranda, which is under two hours from the hotel by car. That route works well if you are combining Albania with the Greek islands. Parking at the hotel is outdoors and costs extra. Bring your passport for the Corfu crossing. Entry and visa rules depend on your citizenship and can change at short notice, so check the official government website before you book.

Is It Worth It?

For the Albanian Riviera, this is a splurge. Shoulder-season rates for an entry room start at roughly $400 to $450 a night, approximate and higher in July and August. That is a fraction of what a comparable sea-view resort costs on the Amalfi Coast or in Mykonos and the water is every bit as clear.

It is worth it if you want reliable service, a real spa and a pool you will actually use. It is less worth it if you plan to be out from breakfast to midnight, because you would be paying for facilities you barely see. In that case a stone guesthouse in upper Dhërmi or a small hotel in Himarë will cost far less and give you more local flavor. Go in June or September for warm water and calmer beaches.

Good to Know

The Riviera season is short. July and August are hot and busy, with Albanian and Italian families filling the beaches and traffic slowing the coast road. June and September are the sweet spots. Check what is open if you are traveling from November through April, as much of the coast goes quiet.

The hotel is not kid-free, so you will share the pool with some families in summer. The beach is pebbly in places, so pack water shoes. Albanian sea currents are usually gentle in summer, but respect flags when the wind picks up. Cash is still useful in small villages for parking and beach loungers. Mosquitoes can appear on warm evenings near the coast, so bring repellent for dinners outdoors.

Insider tips

  1. Ask for a high floor for wider views and less noise from the pool bar.
  2. Book the Llogara Pass drive for the last hour of daylight and stop at the viewpoints on the way down.
  3. Reserve couples spa treatments early in July and August, when the resort is full.
  4. Bring water shoes for the pebbly sections of the beach and the walk to Gjipe.

FAQ

Green Coast Hotel MGallery Collection questions, answered

Where exactly is Green Coast Hotel MGallery?

It is in Palasë, on the Albanian Riviera, at the foot of the Llogara Pass and a few minutes north of Dhërmi. The hotel sits inside the Green Coast resort development, which has its own promenade, shops and restaurants. Himarë town is about 13 km along the coast and Saranda is under two hours south by car.

Is Green Coast Hotel kid-free?

No. The hotel welcomes families and the wider Green Coast development includes a kids club. In practice, couples dominate in June and September, while July and August bring more families to the pool and beach. If a quieter atmosphere matters, aim for the shoulder months and ask for a room away from the pool.

How much does a night cost?

Entry rooms start at roughly $400 to $450 a night for two in the shoulder season, approximate and before extras. Peak summer rates climb well above that and suites cost considerably more. Breakfast may or may not be included depending on the rate and parking is charged separately, so read the booking terms closely.

How do we get there from the airport?

Tirana International Airport (TIA) is a little over two hours away by car, with the final stretch over the winding Llogara Pass. You can rent a car or book a private driver. Some couples fly into Corfu instead and take the ferry to Saranda, which is under two hours from Palasë by road.

When is the best time to stay?

June and September are ideal. The sea is warm, the days are long and the beaches are far quieter than in July and August. May and October can be lovely but less reliable for swimming. Much of the Riviera slows down in winter, so check opening dates for restaurants and boat trips outside the main season.
