At a glanceA long two-part honeymoon that pairs a Kenya safari with the Seychelles: three nights in Amboseli under Kilimanjaro, four in a private Maasai Mara conservancy, then a short nonstop flight to the Indian Ocean for five nights on Praslin and two on Mahé. It suits couples who want big wildlife and a real beach rest without a long flight between them. Go from July to October or in January and February.
Kenya and the Seychelles are one of the easiest safari and beach pairings in the world. Kenya Airways flies from Nairobi to Mahé in roughly three and a half hours, so you swap dust for the Indian Ocean without a long-haul hop in between.
This route keeps hotel changes to four. Amboseli comes first because it is a short bush flight from Nairobi and its elephants walk past with Kilimanjaro behind them. The Maasai Mara follows for four nights in a private conservancy, where vehicle numbers are capped and you can walk, drive at night and stop for a sundowner wherever your guide likes.
Then the tempo drops. Five nights on Praslin give you Anse Lazio, a morning in the Vallée de Mai and a bicycle day on La Digue. Two final nights on Mahé put you close to the airport for the flight home, with one more beach and a sunset at Beau Vallon. It is a long, once-in-a-lifetime honeymoon that still feels unhurried.

Day by day
Days 1–4: Nairobi and Amboseli
Land at Jomo Kenyatta International (NBO). There are no regular nonstops from the US, so most couples connect through Amsterdam, Doha, Dubai, Istanbul or Addis Ababa. Spend the first night at a quiet hotel in the leafy suburb of Karen, where you can visit the elephant orphanage or the Giraffe Centre the next morning if you land early.
On day 2, fly from Wilson Airport (WIL) to Amboseli in about 45 minutes to an hour. Stay in a private sanctuary on the park's edge rather than inside the park. Tortilis Camp looks straight at Kilimanjaro; Angama Amboseli in the Kimana Sanctuary is newer and more polished.
Days 3 and 4 are slow: drives along the swamps where elephant families wade through the green grass, a walk with a Maasai guide and an afternoon nap. The romantic moment is dawn from your tent when the clouds lift off the mountain, usually for an hour or so after sunrise.
Days 5–8: The Maasai Mara
Fly to a Mara airstrip on day 5, sometimes with a stop at Wilson. Choose a camp in one of the private conservancies bordering the reserve, such as Olare Motorogi or Mara North. They limit vehicles per sighting and allow walking safaris and night drives, which the main reserve does not. If you want the river crossings from about July to October, a camp nearer the Mara River or a lodge like Angama Mara on the Oloololo Escarpment puts you closer.
Four nights let you settle in. Head out early and late, then read and swim at camp through the heat. One day, take a picnic and wait at the river with your guide for the herds to commit.
The splurge is a dawn hot-air balloon flight over the plains, ending with a Champagne breakfast in the grass. On your last evening, ask for a private bush dinner by lantern instead of the main dining tent.
Days 9–14: Praslin and La Digue
Fly from the Mara to Wilson, transfer across Nairobi to NBO and take the nonstop to Seychelles International (SEZ) on Mahé. Connect to Praslin on the 15-minute domestic flight or the Cat Cocos ferry from Victoria, about an hour. If the timings will not line up, spend the night on Mahé and move the next morning.
Praslin is the slow stretch. Raffles Seychelles on Anse Takamaka has villas with plunge pools looking toward Curieuse. Spend your first full day doing nothing at all, then pick one plan a day: an early walk in the Vallée de Mai among the coco de mer palms, a boat trip to Curieuse to meet giant tortoises, or a long afternoon at Anse Lazio.
Give one whole day to La Digue. Take the 15-minute ferry, rent bicycles at the jetty and ride to Anse Source d'Argent at low tide. The romantic moment is a sunset catamaran sail back between the granite islands.
Days 14–16: Mahé
Return to Mahé for two nights near the airport and a different side of the Seychelles. Four Seasons Resort Seychelles has hillside villas over Petite Anse, one of the island's quieter coves; Beau Vallon in the northwest is livelier, with beach bars and a long, gentle bay.
Use your full day for one of Mahé's hikes. The Anse Major trail follows the coast for about an hour to a beach with no road access. The Copolia climb is shorter and steeper, with a summit slab that looks over Victoria and the Sainte Anne islands. In the afternoon, snorkel or join a marine park cruise.
End with a Creole dinner of grilled fish and octopus curry and a sunset over Beau Vallon. On day 16, transfer to SEZ for flights home through Dubai, Doha or Addis Ababa. With 20 or more hours of travel ahead, a late checkout or day room is worth booking.
Getting Between Stops
Every leg in Kenya is by light aircraft. Safarilink and AirKenya fly from Wilson to Amboseli in under an hour and link Amboseli with the Mara directly or via Wilson. Soft bags of about 15 kg per person are the rule, so pack beachwear tightly and leave a suitcase with your Nairobi hotel if you plan to return.
The crossing to the Seychelles is the one tricky day. Mara flights land at Wilson, while the Mahé flight leaves from Jomo Kenyatta International, about 45 minutes to an hour and a half away across Nairobi traffic. Leave a generous gap or overnight in Nairobi.
In the Seychelles, Air Seychelles flies Mahé to Praslin in about 15 minutes and the Cat Cocos ferry takes about an hour. Ferries link Praslin and La Digue in 15 minutes. Driving is on the left; a rental car helps on Mahé, while taxis are enough on Praslin.
Where to Stay
Amboseli: Tortilis Camp in the Kitirua Conservancy for direct Kilimanjaro views, or Angama Amboseli in the Kimana Sanctuary for a smaller luxury camp. Ol Donyo Lodge in the Chyulu Hills adds star beds and horseback riding if you want a more remote alternative.
Maasai Mara: Angama Mara sits on the Oloololo Escarpment above the Mara Triangle, with long views over the plains. Camps in the Olare Motorogi and Mara North conservancies are smaller, with walking and night drives included.
Praslin: Raffles Seychelles on Anse Takamaka, with plunge-pool villas and a spa among the boulders. Constance Lemuria is the other big name on the island. For a night on La Digue, pick a small guesthouse.
Mahé: Four Seasons Resort Seychelles for hillside villas over a quiet bay.

When to Go
The Mara is at its most dramatic from about July to October, when the migration reaches the Mara River and the crossings begin. Amboseli is dry then too, which means elephants concentrate on the swamps and the mountain is often clear at dawn. January and February are the other good window: short and hot, with fewer vehicles and plenty of young animals.
The Seychelles are warm all year. The calmest seas come in the changeover months of April, May, October and November. From about June to September the southeast trade winds blow, which makes some beaches choppier, but sheltered bays such as Anse Lazio usually stay swimmable.
Avoid April and May for the safari leg, when the long rains make roads muddy and several camps close. Early January and late October can be the best compromise between both halves.
Budget and Booking
This is a premium route. Plan on roughly $1,200–3,500 a night for two at good conservancy camps, usually including meals, drinks and activities. Conservancy and park fees are charged per person per day, so ask whether your quote includes them. The Seychelles run about $600–1,800 a night for two at the better beach resorts. All figures are approximate and vary with season.
Add bush flights, the regional flight to Mahé and inter-island transfers. Book July to October and the Christmas holidays nine to twelve months ahead, especially for the Mara camps.
A Kenya specialist can hold the whole chain together, which matters when a bush flight changes. Buy travel insurance with medical evacuation cover. Many camps and resorts add a honeymoon dinner or room upgrade with proof of your wedding date, so mention it when you book.
Make It Shorter or Longer
For 12 or 13 days, drop Amboseli and fly straight into the Mara for four nights, then spend six on Praslin and one on Mahé. You keep the most famous park and the best beach base.
With 18 to 20 days, add three nights in Laikipia or Samburu between Amboseli and the Mara for rhino, walking safaris and the dry northern landscapes. Or split the beach time with three nights on a private island. Denis Island is a 30-minute flight from Mahé, with a coral beach and very few rooms.
Couples who want less moving can skip Mahé at the end and fly from Praslin to Mahé on departure day, adding those two nights to Praslin instead. Leave a good buffer before the international flight, since small planes can be delayed by weather.
Honeymoon Tips
- Wear khaki, olive or tan on safari; dark blue and black attract tsetse flies.
- Pack a fleece each for early drives and the balloon flight. Highland mornings are cold.
- See a travel doctor about malaria prevention for Kenya. If you're pregnant or hoping to be soon, check CDC travel health notices.
- Entry and visa rules depend on your citizenship and can change at short notice, so check the official government website before you book.
- In the Seychelles, respect red flags; some beaches have strong currents outside the sheltered months.
- Cycle La Digue in the morning before the heat and the day-trippers.
- Read the State Department advisories for Kenya and the Seychelles before you travel.
FAQPlanning this trip
Is 16 days enough for a Kenya safari and the Seychelles?
Yes. Seven nights on safari covers two very different parks without rushing. Seven in the Seychelles gives you a real rest after the early starts. Shorter trips usually drop Amboseli or the second Seychelles base. Longer ones add Laikipia or a private island rather than more moving around.
How do we get from Kenya to the Seychelles?
Kenya Airways flies nonstop from Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International to Mahé in about three and a half hours. Allow time to cross Nairobi from Wilson Airport, where bush flights land. From Mahé, a 15-minute flight or an hour on the ferry takes you to Praslin.
Should we stay in the Maasai Mara reserve or a conservancy?
For a honeymoon, a private conservancy is usually better. Vehicle numbers are limited, you can walk and drive at night and camps are small. The main reserve has more lodges and more traffic around sightings. Conservancy camps can still drive into the reserve for river crossings in season.
Which Seychelles island is best after a safari?
Praslin is the easiest choice. It has Anse Lazio, the Vallée de Mai and a 15-minute ferry to La Digue, with good resorts and simple transfers from Mahé. Ending on Mahé puts you near the airport. Private islands such as Denis Island or North Island suit couples who want total quiet.
What does a Kenya and Seychelles honeymoon cost?
For two weeks at good camps and resorts, many couples spend roughly $15,000 to $40,000 for two including bush flights, regional flights and park fees, before international airfare. These figures are approximate. Traveling in early November or late June lowers safari rates noticeably.
