Jamaica practically invented the couples-only all-inclusive. Couples Swept Away is one of the purest expressions of the idea. Two people, one beach and almost nothing to pay for once you arrive: meals, premium drinks, airport transfers, scuba dives, a sunset catamaran sail and even green fees at a nearby golf club are all folded into the rate. The resort stretches across 19 garden-filled acres on Negril's famous Seven Mile Beach, with suites tucked into low buildings that never rise above the palms.

What sets Swept Away apart from its siblings is energy. Across the road sits a 10-acre sports and fitness complex billed as the largest in Jamaica, with tennis, pickleball, squash and racquetball courts, a lap pool and daily classes. Yet on the beach side, the pace is pure Negril: hammocks on balconies, rum punch at sunset and a sea so calm and clear that snorkeling feels like floating in a pool. For honeymooners who want a little sweat with their sunshine, it is one of the best-value romantic stays in the Caribbean.

Seven Mile Beach, Front Row

Negril's Seven Mile Beach is the beach everyone pictures: a long, gentle curve of pale sand with water that shades from turquoise to deep blue. Swept Away claims a generous stretch of it along Norman Manley Boulevard, where the sand stays soft underfoot and the water is usually calm enough for paddleboarding before breakfast.

The grounds are a big part of the charm. Instead of a single tower, the resort spreads out through tropical gardens, with walkways threading between flowering shrubs and almond trees. It feels more like a village than a hotel. Head west at sunset and you will see why Negril is famous for its evening sky; the beach faces the right way for a nightly show.

Choosing Your Suite

Accommodations range from Garden Verandah and Atrium rooms to Ocean Verandah, Beachfront Verandah and Beachfront Suites, with Great House options set back from the sand. Many come with private balconies and hammocks. The design is breezy and uncluttered.

For a honeymoon, it is worth stretching to a beachfront category. Waking up to the sound of waves, stepping straight onto the sand and having the sunset outside your door make a real difference over a week. A few practical notes: some categories, including Atrium rooms and some beachfront suites, intentionally have no TV. The Great House Ocean Suites are among the few with a bathtub. Ask when booking if either matters to you.

Eating and Drinking, Unlimited

Dining is round-the-clock, with about seven venues and a handful of bars. A quick tour:

  • Feathers is the elegant dinner spot, with continental dishes served in a candlelit setting.
  • Lemongrass brings Asian flavors, a welcome change of pace midweek.
  • Scotch Bonnet focuses on Jamaican cooking, a must for jerk and curry.
  • The Palms offers buffet and à la carte options with sea breezes.
  • The Veggie Bar on the beach is a resort institution for fresh juices and light bites.
  • Cabana Grill keeps the poolside crowd fed.

Premium spirits and a personalized in-room minibar are included. Continental breakfast can be delivered to your room. There is also a piano bar for after dinner.

The Sports Complex and Spa

Few beach resorts anywhere invest this much in fitness. The 10-acre complex has nine tennis courts (clay and hard), four pickleball courts, two squash courts, two racquetball courts, a 25-meter lap pool, a jogging track, a basketball court and a well-equipped gym. Group clinics and private tennis instruction are included. Steam rooms, saunas and whirlpools help you recover afterward.

In total there are three swimming pools and five whirlpools across the resort. The full-service spa is the main extra, offering massages, facials and body treatments, including couples massages. Book at least one treatment for two; it pairs beautifully with a slow afternoon on your balcony hammock.

On and Off the Water

Swept Away's inclusions are especially generous on the water. You can kayak, paddleboard, sail a Hobie Cat, windsurf or water-ski. The glass-bottom boat heads out to a choice of snorkel sites on the reef. Certified divers can take part in included dives, while newcomers can try an introductory course.

Most days, a late-afternoon catamaran cruise departs right from the beach and sails toward Negril's West End cliffs with rum punch in hand; it is the closest thing to a honeymoon ritual here. Shuttles head to the West End for sunset and to town for shopping. Golfers get green fees and transport to Negril Hills Golf Club. Note that caddies and carts are paid separately.

Why Guests Fall for It

Couples Swept Away has a famously loyal following. Reviews explain why. Guests repeatedly highlight the staff, describing them as warm, upbeat and genuinely happy to see returning faces, with some couples coming back year after year. The beach comes up constantly too, praised for its soft sand, calm water and unbeatable sunsets.

Active travelers love the sports complex and the quality of the tennis program, while foodies single out the variety of restaurants and the beach Veggie Bar. Many reviewers emphasize the value: with transfers, diving, golf fees, drinks and tips all included, they say the final bill holds no surprises. Above all, guests describe a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere that lets couples simply enjoy each other.

Good to Know

  • The resort is for couples ages 18 and older only.
  • Tips and gratuities are included, so there is no need to carry cash for every drink.
  • The transfer from Montego Bay's Sangster International Airport takes about 90 minutes and is included in the all-inclusive plan.
  • Unlimited diving is for certified divers; bring your certification card.
  • Some room categories have no TV by design, which many honeymooners see as a plus.
  • Peak season runs mid-December through April. Summer and early fall bring lower rates, though hurricane season runs from June through November.
  • The spa, golf caddies and carts and some special excursions cost extra.
  • Vendors work the public stretches of Seven Mile Beach; a friendly, firm "no thanks" is all it takes. After dark, use the resort shuttle or a licensed taxi rather than walking along the road.
  • Mosquitoes are around at dusk, so pack repellent. If you're pregnant or hoping to be soon, check CDC travel health notices for this destination.

Insider tips

  1. Book a beachfront category; the sunsets from your doorstep are worth the upgrade.
  2. Join the beach catamaran cruise early in your stay so you know which West End spots you want to revisit.
  3. Pack your dive certification card and a pair of court shoes to make the most of the inclusions.
  4. If a bathtub or TV matters to you, confirm your suite category's features before booking.

FAQ

Couples Swept Away questions, answered

What is included at Couples Swept Away?

The all-inclusive plan covers round-the-clock dining, premium drinks, an in-room minibar, tips, roundtrip airport transfers from Montego Bay, most water sports, included dives for certified divers, a catamaran cruise and sports complex access with lessons. Golf at Negril Hills, with green fees and transport, is included too. Spa treatments, golf caddies and carts and some excursions are extra.

Is Couples Swept Away kid-free?

Yes. Like every Couples resort, Swept Away welcomes couples only, ages 18 and over. There are no children on property, which keeps the pools, restaurants and beach calm and romantic. The atmosphere is social and friendly rather than wild. Many guests are returning couples or celebrating honeymoons and anniversaries.

How far is Couples Swept Away from the airport?

The resort is about 90 minutes by road from Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay, which has nonstop flights from many US cities. Roundtrip transfers are included in the all-inclusive rate. Some travelers book a short charter flight to Negril's small aerodrome to save time, but most simply enjoy the coastal drive.

Which room is best for a honeymoon?

Beachfront categories are the most romantic, putting the sand and the sunset right outside your door. If you want a bathtub, look at the Great House Ocean Suites. Note that some categories intentionally have no TV. Garden-view rooms offer good value and quieter surroundings if you plan to spend most of your time on the beach anyway.

Is Swept Away a good choice if we are not sporty?

Absolutely. The sports complex is a bonus rather than the focus. Plenty of couples never set foot on a court. The long beach, hammocks, catamaran cruises, snorkeling and spa make it easy to spend days doing very little. Think of the fitness facilities as an optional way to balance all that included food and rum punch.
