Why Honeymoon in Grace Bay
The beach is reason enough. The sand is soft and cool underfoot and the water shades from pale aquamarine to deep sapphire, while the reef keeps the waves small. Unlike some Caribbean beaches, Grace Bay rarely feels crowded, because the sand is so long and wide.
Beyond the beach, Grace Bay is the heart of Providenciales, with a wide range of restaurants, spas, boutiques and boat operators all within a short walk or drive. That convenience makes it ideal for couples who want luxury without isolation. And when you crave more seclusion, the empty beaches of the outer cays, reachable by boat in minutes, deliver total privacy.
When to Go
The peak season runs from about mid-December through April, when the weather is dry, sunny and pleasantly warm, with daytime temperatures typically in the low to mid 80s Fahrenheit. This is also when humpback whales migrate through the Turks Island Passage, roughly January through April, an added bonus for nature lovers.
May and June are a sweet spot, with warm water, fewer visitors and lower rates. Summer is hotter and more humid but still beautiful, with calm seas. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June through November, with the greatest risk from August through October, so travel insurance is essential then. The Turks & Caicos Conch Festival, usually held in November, is a fun local event.
Where to Stay
Grace Bay is lined with upscale resorts and condo-style hotels, most offering spacious suites with kitchens and ocean views. Our featured honeymoon pick is Grace Bay Club, the first luxury all-suite resort on the beach. It has a kid-free Hotel Building of 22 oceanfront suites with its own infinity pool, a spa with a couples' room and the romantic Infiniti restaurant and bar.
The broader Grace Bay hotel landscape ranges from large family-friendly resorts to intimate boutique properties and private villas, many with butler or concierge service. For couples who want a private-island escape, COMO Parrot Cay lies a short boat ride away. As a rough guide, oceanfront suites on Grace Bay run from several hundred dollars to well over $1,000 a night in peak season. Some honeymooners split their trip between the convenience of Grace Bay and the seclusion of an island resort.
Romantic Things to Do
Grab a mask and snorkel at Bight Reef, also known as Coral Gardens, just off the western end of Grace Bay, where coral heads and reef fish lie a short swim from shore and turtles sometimes appear. Paddleboard at sunrise when the water is like glass, or rent kayaks to explore the shoreline.
Charter a private boat for a day of snorkeling, sandbar picnics and a visit to Iguana Island (Little Water Cay), home to endangered rock iguanas. Head to Da Conch Shack for fresh conch salad with your toes in the sand, or join the weekly Island Fish Fry at Bight Park for local food, music and dancing. End the day on a sunset sail with a glass of Champagne.
Getting There & Around
Providenciales International Airport (PLS) receives nonstop flights from many US cities, including Miami, New York, Atlanta and Charlotte. The flight from Miami takes around 90 minutes. Grace Bay is only about 15 minutes from the airport by taxi or resort transfer.
Taxis are widely available but can be pricey, with fares set by zone and per person. Renting a car is a great way to explore quieter beaches such as Taylor Bay, Sapodilla Bay and Long Bay; remember that driving is on the left. Bikes are an easy way to get around Grace Bay itself. Many resorts provide them.
Food & Drink
Conch is the star of Turks & Caicos cuisine. Try it as a zesty conch salad, crispy cracked conch or conch fritters, ideally at a beachside shack. Fresh lobster, in season roughly from August through March, grouper and snapper are also local highlights, often served with peas and rice.
Grace Bay has an impressive restaurant scene, from casual beach bars to elegant oceanfront dining rooms. Many resorts have excellent restaurants, such as Infiniti at Grace Bay Club. Dining here is expensive because most ingredients are imported, so budget accordingly. Toast your trip with a rum punch or a Turk's Head beer, brewed locally.
Honeymoon Tips
- Book resorts and popular restaurants early for travel between December and April.
- Turks & Caicos is one of the pricier Caribbean destinations; a suite with a kitchen can help offset costs for breakfast and snacks.
- Snorkel early in the morning, when the water is calmest and visibility is best.
- Wear reef-safe sunscreen to protect the coral.
- Rent a car for at least a day to discover the quieter southern beaches.
- Check every bag for stray ammunition before you fly; carrying even a single round is a serious offense here.
